Short Course: Training of Trainers in Challenge-Based Learning

Challenge-Based Learning (CBL) by CHARM-EU: Learning by Tackling Real-World Challenges.

This training program at the CBL draws on the experience ofthe CHARM-EU university alliance, of whichthe University of Montpellier is a member.

With this method, learners overcome challenges by seeking sustainable solutions to real-world problems. This approach encourages learners to build on their existing skills but also to acquire new ones, developed through analysis of the topic, collaboration with peers and teachers, and discussions with stakeholders affected by the challenges.


Objectives

  1. Understanding the Principles of Challenge-Based Learning: Gain an in-depth understanding of the principles and methodologies of challenge-based learning.
  2. Incorporating the principles of transdisciplinarity: involving training providers and external stakeholders
  3. Develop new teaching skills: design and implement CBL activities, create real-world challenges, facilitate collaboration, and guide learners.
  4. Fostering Learner Engagement: Techniques for Motivating and Fostering Learner Engagement, Promoting Active Learning.
  5. Use digital tools for collaboration, research, and reporting.
  6. Collaborate and network with peers to share best practices and build a community of practice around CBL.
  7. Engage in reflective practice to continuously improve CBL activities

Educational engineer and IT and digital technology expert at the University of Montpellier; head of the EdTech and AI working group for the European University Alliance CHARM-EU. Specializes in the design of hybrid and international courses, with a strong focus on challenge-based learning.

Roland THALER

Educational engineer in the continuing education department at the University of Montpellier; instructor in environmental studies and land-use planning at UM; developer of training partnerships involving external stakeholders (companies, public agencies, nonprofit organizations, etc.) within the European university alliance CHARM-EU.
