The DAEU-B: A state diploma giving access to the university system
Run by the Faculty of Science at the University of Montpellier, the DAEU-Bor Diplôme d'Accès aux Études Universitaires - option scientifique, is an alternative to the traditional baccalauréat, specially designed for those wishing to return to university studies after a break in their academic career.
This program is aimed at adults (employees, jobseekers) who have not obtained their baccalaureate and who wish to reorient themselves towards a course of further study requiring scientific scientific foundations.
The DAEU-B enables students to acquire scientific skills at a level equivalent to that of the general baccalaureate, through courses in mathematics, French, physics, chemistry and biology, as well as support for their post-DAEU project.
A path of determination, commitment and perseverance
For many students, obtaining the DAEU-B was more than just a formality. This diploma represents much more than a qualification: it embodies a second chancea second chance, a chance to take control of one's career and a victory over doubt about one's own learning abilities...
Testimony of Blandine LIEBE, class of 2022-2023 valedictorian from Béziers :
"I now know that anything is possible for me, as I finally have the baccalaureate level I've been waiting for since I failed my science section 20 years ago.
Obtaining the DAEU-B enabled me to realize that I had the ability to succeed, and this confidence boost was very much appreciated."
The graduation ceremony was an opportunity to underline the company's determination of these trainees, some of whom were juggling part-time jobs, family responsibilities and demanding scientific studies.
The DAEU-B remains a major challenge for those with no previous training in scientific subjects, which is why we are keen to highlight the ability adaptability and perseverance of the graduates of the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 classes, who have risen to this challenge with flying colors.
A bridge to the future
For many, graduation is far from the end of the road. Indeed, the DAEU-B is above all a open door to further university studies. This diploma gives access to higher educationThe DAEU-B is a gateway to higher education, whether in scientific fields via a Licence, technical fields via a BTS or BUT, paramedical or even medical fields, or in economics and accounting in particular.
Testimony of Gwenaelle GOSNET, trainee class 2023-2024 in Montpellier :
"My name is Gwenaelle Gosnet, I' m 26 and I went back to school at the age of 25 after stopping at 17 and having dyslexic problems.
Last year I decided to register for the DAEU-B in Montpellier with the aim of being admitted to nursing school after failing to pass a bac ST2S as an independent candidate.
The DAEU was an opportunity and a chance that I seized. After spending a year working hard and believing in my goal, I was admitted to the IFSI (Institut de Formation en Soins Infirmiers) in Cahors in July 2024.
We mustn't lose hope."
The DAEU-B represents a valuable opportunity for adults who have taken a different path in life, offering them a new chance to learn and evolve in an ever-changing academic and professional world. It's a reminder that learning doesn't stop after the baccalauréat, and that it's always possible to reorientate and retrain, whatever your path.
This event underlines the importance of lifelong learning and access to education for all, whatever their age.
