New welding and machining courses at the University Institute of Technology in Nîmes

The University Institute of Technology (IUT) in Nîmes has recently developed two new micro-certifications in industrial techniques aimed at training students for careers in manufacturing techniques:

  1. Welding: Basics of TIG welding and coated electrode welding
  2. Machining: Computer numerical control and computer-aided manufacturing

Objectives

Micro welding certification

This micro-certification aims to train senior technicians in arc welding processes and methods for ensuring quality.

  1. Implement arc welding processes
  2. Check that welding devices and equipment are in good working order.
  3. Set the welding parameters according to the DMOS related to the operation.
  4. Review and ensure compliance with the technical elements of the action plan (DMOS, instruction sheets, items to be welded, etc.).

Micro certification in machining

This micro-certification aims to implement and improve programs on numerically controlled machines in order to train senior technicians in the operation of the digital chain during the advanced manufacturing phase.

  1. Carry out the machining program
  2. Check and correct the machining program
  3. Propose one or more areas for improvement in the machining of the part.

Teaching staff

Cyril Bordreuil

Both courses are led by Cyril BORDREUIL, who has been teaching for over 20 years in the Mechanical Engineering and Production Technology (GMP) department at the University Institute of Technology (IUT) in Nîmes, where he is now head of department. As a member of the LMGC (Mechanical and Civil Engineering Laboratory) research laboratory, he conducts research in the field of physics related to arc welding processes.

Frédéric Meizonnet

Cyril Bordreuil will be joined by Frédéric Meizonnet for the micro-certification in welding.

Frédéric Meizonnet has been teaching in the GMP department for over 15 years, giving classes in welding and metal forming (boiler making). He teaches introductory, advanced, and expert courses to students in the BUT program and the professional bachelor's degree program in Metallurgy, Metal Forming, and Welding (MMS).

It plays an important role in the training leading to the internationally recognized International Welding Technologist (IWT) certification.

He is also responsible for the welding workshop in the GMP department.

Frédéric Pardo

Frédéric Pardo will speak alongside Cyril Bordreuil as part of the Machining micro-certification program .

Frédéric Pardo has been teaching in the GMP department for over 10 years. Holder of a Certificate of Aptitude for Aeronautical Teaching, he is in charge of teaching machining and methods, from introductory courses to advanced mastery of 5-axis machines.

As deputy head of the department and manager of the machining workshop, he has expertise in the digital chain related to mechanical manufacturing and in the hands-on use of machining centers.

Training session

One training session is planned for the current year:

  • from June 22, 2026, to June 26, 2026,OR
  • from June 29, 2026 to July 3, 2026

The two micro-certifications are separate but will take place at the same time. One of the two weeks will be selected based on demand.
